Mobo Studio Spring 2010

Mobo Studio, returns in full-force this Spring with new pod offerings and a more flexible approach. This trimester the focus is Scratch Stories and students will learn how to use Scratch, a piece of popular software that allows kids to create their own games, animations, stories, sound collages, or whatever else they can dream up! Scratch uses a simple visual programming language, so kids will also learn some basic computer programming, which can be used to create interactive fashion, toys, puppets, robots, and more. Scratch has a huge community of kids from all over the world who design and share their creations, and we are excited to bring Q2L into this global community of makers!
During the trimester students will work in small groups with teacher-mentors on mini-projects designed to explore and develop skills in a specific area of interest—animation/computer programming, sound/video creation, and graphic art/design. At the conclusion of each mini-project, students can explore a new area of interest or continue to hone skills they’ve already developed. This structure will allow students to choose the topics they want to work on, giving them exposure to a lot of different ideas or allowing them to go deep into something they love. Similarly, students who can only attend Mobo part-time (atleast 2 days a week) will still have a great chance to learn, participate, and create.
Students will: explore how to tell a good story, computer programming, visual design, sound design, the process of iterating and prototyping ideas, critical-thinking, time management, collaboration, and problem-solving.
